Mission Statement

We at SANE IS GREY endeavor to encourage others in seeking and building a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5).  Using a digital format, we seek to promote worship and honor of the one true God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) by teaching and proclaiming the truth of God given scripture.  With Bible passages as the all sufficient answer for every human condition, we seek to glorify God and humble mankind with this humorous cartoon and subsequent education in various forms.

However the Lord provides through this endeavor, we joyfully commit in giving back to His work any way we can.  Financial gain, for the sake of earthly treasures and the applause of men for the sake of pride is not our interest.  Pleasing God and not grieving the Holy Spirit in the handling of His Word is our desire, even if rejected by the world.

Sincerely,

SANE IS GREY staff and team

Hope for the future

We at SANE IS GREY look forward in hope for God’s blessing with the future opportunity for books, animation and computer

(cyber space) based biblical teaching opportunity.

We look forward to translation into different languages for this same purpose.

We also look forward to financially supporting other Christ centered organizations in the spread of the one true and original gospel.

  Some history of:

SANE IS GREY

Created in 1987 by Scott D. Fenn

Copyrighted in 1988 as a secular cartoon.

Copyrighted again in 2005 to cover some small character appearance changes.

In 1986, while working a summer job during college as an art student, I drew a cow cartoon on a napkin. I enjoyed my drawing enough, for some reason, to save it. Then in 1987, while working full time in a graphic art studio as an artists’ assistant, I started reworking that same cow cartoon. Wanting more characters to interact with my cow, I then drew several others. By the middle of 1988 I was now focused on my favorite four character drawings: Fred the cow (now a bull), Sherman the pig, Gladis the duck, and Keith the reptile. Something was now coming together along with the title I gave it, SANE IS GREY. This title represents both the place where they live and a subjective observation for what I thought might be a “Social Commentary” type cartoon strip. Being very happy with this creation, I copyrighted it with the United States Library of Congress. The cartoon made its first public appearance in either 1988 or 1989 at the Vox Gallery, a small art gallery in downtown Akron, Ohio. The event was a silent auction of postcard-sized artwork from local art students and others “in the know.” After that, by working several different marketing ideas and the help of two friends, I attempted to take the world by storm with SANE IS GREY. However, by 1992, personal and professional struggles, along with failed attempts in the stationary industry both in England and the USA, and the local newspaper market, I put SANE IS GREY on the shelf.

By the mid 1990s,  never content with the “status quo,” and still wanting an answer to why the world was the way it was, the LORD saved me. After I privately accepted  Jesus Christ as Savior, I searched the Bible and listened to radio Bible preachers and teachers daily. I looked for a church true to the teaching of all scripture. Now married and blessed with two children and having set artistic endeavors aside, I worked many different jobs over the next two decades, partnering with my wife to support our family.  After years of prayer, searching and frustration of how I might best serve the Lord Jesus Christ, it came to me one morning. Out of the blue… with no premeditation… slowly… while in the shower… it crept into my mind… sane is grey, … sane is grey. Was I being moved by pride or selfish ambition? I thought and wondered for days. I prayed to the LORD for wisdom, understanding, strength, perseverance and direction as I slowly began again.

And so, the book that I had shelved all those years ago was opened again in 2013 as a biblical cartoon. Now to be used for sharing the gospel with others.

SANE IS GREY was back!
